Narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), who said:

The word of Allah Most High: "Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan" (2:245) — was revealed regarding the gift to the Imam.

And he said: "A single dirham that reaches the Imam is more excellent than a million dirhams spent elsewhere."

And he said: "Whoever is unable to give to us, let him give to the righteous among his brothers — and the reward of giving to us will be written for him."
